Clean up time! Even the best planned party can get a little messy and the best candles can drip a little. Read our clean up tips.

HURRICANES AND PILLARS

image006Our hurricane and pillar candles slowly burn down the center, casting elegant shadows around the room, they become more beautiful and dramatic each time you use them.

For the first burn, place your pillar in a heat resistant holder, straighten wick and light, allowing enough burning time for melted wax to reach within 1/4 inch or 1cm of the edge, this is usually 1.5 – 2 hours for small pillars and 2-3 hours for larger pillars. Burning your pillar for shorter periods of time (for example only 15 or 30 minutes) will cause the candle to tunnel resulting in a drowned wick and wasted wax.

For subsequent use, burn pillars for 2 – 4 hours at a time. Generally, when burning, allow melted wax to reach within 1/4 inch or 1cm of the edge but no closer.

After extinguishing the candle each time, carefully strighten the wick and trim to ¼” or 1cm. This will leave the candle ready and in optimal condition for the next burn.

If at any time, the wick is smoking excessively, the flame is more than 3cm high, or the flame is flickering, extinguish the candle, carefully straighten the wick, (when it is still warm and flexible) and trim the wick to ¼” or 1cm before relighting. Do not straighten or touch wicks when they are cold as they can easily break.

GLASS FILLED CANDLES

image010Your glass filled candle has a clear fragrance seal on top of the wax. Remove and discard this clear seal prior to lighting.

Our 160g glass container candles are infused with fine French fragrance oils. They are never overpowering or artificial smelling. One candle is strong enough to fill a normal size bathroom or bedroom with fragrance. Two are good for a medium to large sized living area. The fragrance will not be as strong if burned outdoors or in larger open areas.

Always place candle on a heat resistant holder so there is no chance of the heat damaging your furniture.

Handle burning container candles with care. The melted wax and flame can cause the containers to be too hot to handle. To be additionally safe, when the wax level is from 1/4 to 1/2 from the bottom of container, you should discontinue use and avoid the possibility of the container cracking.

Glass containers are particularly fragile and heat from the flame concentrated in one area could cause the glass to break. Be sure to keep the wick straight and trimmed so it does not come too close to the glass. If glass starts accumulating black smoke or the wick is smoking excessively, extinguish the candle, carefully straighten the wick, and trim the wick to ¼” or 1cm. To remove black residue from glass wipe the inside of the cooled glass gently with a wet cloth.

HEART CANDLES AND BON-BONS

image012Our decorative heart shaped candle will burn in the center with excess wax left on the edges of the heart. Place candle on a heat resistant holder. Burn candle for 1-2 hours at a time. When candle burns to within ¼” or 1cm of base, extinguish candle and discontinue use. This is especially important if you are using a glass or crystal candle holder, as the heat from the flame could crack your holder.

Our chocolate bon bon candles are single burn candles, similar to birthday cake candles. These decorative candles are engineered to burn for only about 10 minutes and for a single time only. As the shape is irregular, they will not burn all the way down to the base. Enjoy them on cakes and as table decorations (always use a holder and never burn directly on the table).

TAPERS

image009Our decorative tapers make the perfect complement to your chic table setting. To use, start by finding the right holder. Protect your table and linen by using a taper holder or candelabra that is heat resistant and will catch any drips should they occur. Tapers should fit snugly and securely in the holder. Loose tapers could tilt or topple over causing a fire hazard.

Make sure that tapers are burned in a low draft environment. Do not place them near doorways, windows, air vents, fans, and high traffic areas where people are passing by them constantly. Tapers should sit straight in their holders.

If at any time, the wick is smoking excessively, the flame is more than 3cm high, or the flame is flickering, extinguish the candle, carefully straighten the wick, and trim the wick to ¼” or 1cm before relighting.

Grandmother’s tip (it works!) , try placing your taper candles in the freezer for 2-3 hours prior to burning, this will help them to burn more slowly and drip less.

If you are using a glass or crystal candle holder or candelabra, extinguish taper candles when they reach within ½” or 2cm from your holder as the heat from the flame could crack your holder. To remove unused wax from your holder, try placing the holder in the freezer for 2 hours. The cold wax will be easier to remove. Use a dull plastic knife or plastic card to loosen the wax (a sharp knife could scratch your holder or cause injury).

GENERAL SAFETYSafety icons_AW
  • Never place candle directly on a table, on glass, or on a cloth surface. Always place candle on a heat resistant holder which will contain any drips should they occur.
  • Never leave a candle burning unattended. If you are not able to monitor your candle as it burns, it is better to extinguish the candle for re-lighting at a later time.
  • Avoid placing candle in a draft. A draft will cause the flame to melt one side of candle, which could result in melted wax running over the edge. A draft will also cause the flame to flicker which produces soot and excess smoke.
  • Keep burning candles away from children and pets.
  • Never leave wick trimmings, matches, or any other material in the wax pool as these can create a fire hazard.
  • Keep your burning candles away from any flammable objects.
  • Handle burning glass and metal container candles with care. The melted wax and flame can cause the containers to be too hot to handle. To be additionally safe, when the wax level is from 1/4 to 1/2 from the bottom of container, you should discontinue use and avoid the possibility of the container cracking.
  • Please follow instructions carefully. Natural Light Candle Company and its distributors may not be held liable for any damages or injuries resulting from the use of our candles.

CLEAN UP!

Even the best candles can drip a little.

To remove wax from your holder, try placing the holder in the freezer for 2 hours. The cold wax will be easier to remove. Use a dull plastic knife or the edge of a plastic card to loosen wax , as a sharp knife could scratch your holder.

To remove wax from wood without scratching it, run an ice cube over the wax to harden it then gently pop the wax off the wood using the edge of a plastic card. Do not scrape the wax or use strong chemical cleaners as this could ruin your table finish.
