Today there are a plethora of candles available on the market, made from various types of wax, including paraffin, soy, beeswax and many others. At Natural Light Candle Company we produce candles using a unique beeswax blend. We believe that beeswax candles are a better alternative to other candles, here’s why;
BEESWAX: A Love Story
For centuries, candle makers have prized beeswax as the highest quality wax available. Beeswax is produced by the incredibly industrious honey bee, not by man. It is a sustainable, eco-friendly product which is harvested alongside honey. Beeswax burns longer (up to 2.5 times) and cleaner than paraffin. It does not release toxins and in fact releases negative ions which help to cleanse the air. Bees not only produce honey and wax, but act to naturally pollinate crops, thus reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and increasing organic crop yields up to 33%. The more beeswax candles that are made, the more bees, the better for the environment. In fact, here at Natural Light Candle, we love bees so much that we’ve started a CSR project to help support sustainable bee keeping.
PARAFFIN: A Sludge Story
How is paraffin made? Paraffin is a by-product of the same gas and oil found in your car. To produce paraffin, crude oil is processed through an intense bleaching and solidifying process, with chemicals added along the way. When paraffin candles are burned, they release these chemicals into your home environment.
SOY WAX: A Farm Story
What are you getting when you buy a soy wax candle? To produce soy wax, soybeans are heated, rolled into flakes, and then the oil is extracted using chemical solvents called hexanes. Hydrogen gas is then forced into the oil to solidify it. 96% of soy beans grown globally are genetically-modified and are grown using pesticides. To grow soybeans, vast expanses of land are needed and this land is treated with pesticides. Soybean production has been linked to deforestation and negative effects on water reserves and soil quality.
